Confinement

Confinement

After the birth begins a new physiological period that will last on average 6-8 weeks: lausage. At this stage there are new changes in the body of the woman. The vulva and perineum, much destined during pregnancy, begin to recover from the first days to normal.
The small bumps of the vagina and vulva also heal in 4-5 days. The uterus begins to decrease in volume and at the same time the cervix is restored, which was wide open during birth. The complete restoration takes 2-4 weeks.
Milk secretion occurs under the influence of a pituitary hormone called prolactin and is maintained by a reflex mechanism of sucking the baby.
When the milk secretion begins, the breasts strengthen, are painful, and the local temperature rises to 38 °.

These phenomena known as milk rage disappear within 24 to 48 hours, after which normal milk secretion is installed. If a woman stops breastfeeding for a few days, she may lose her milk.
Once the slab is recommended to stay immobilized in bed for 10-12 days; today it is recommended to rest absolutely in bed only 24 hours. The lifting of the bed is slow and progressive.
The rational nutrition of the slab has a dual purpose: to satisfy the needs of its own organism and to maintain a sufficient milk secretion. The food of the slab must be composed of fresh foods, easily digestible, rich in vitamins and tastefully prepared. Overeating is a prejudice.
Overfeeding causes digestive disorders that can disturb the digestion of the newborn. In the first 1-2 days after birth, the diet of the slab will consist of vegetable and meat soups, milk, compote, lemonade, bread and sweets. Then switch to a complete diet.
It does not have a scientific basis the tendency to give in the first days, too large quantities of liquids in order to simulate milk production. In this way, only an exaggerated congestion of the breasts is obtained.
In addition to providing the baby with all the necessary substances for growth and development, breastfeeding is also the most convenient for the mother.
Mother's milk is always ready at the time of the baby's meal. It is enough for the mother to wash her breasts and hands and the baby can hygienically take her ideal food within a quarter of an hour. Maintaining this milk source requires cleaning first.
The hands of the slab should have short nails and should be well washed, with brush and soap before each suction. The baby will not be kept under suction for more than 10-15 minutes (during this time, he takes the necessary amount of milk), because the nipples are irritated.
If the quantity of milk is too large and the woman has the feeling that she has not emptied her breast, she will squeeze it with a pump sterilized by boiling. The habit of squeezing the breasts by hand is dangerous because it causes infections. Throughout the breastfeeding period, the breasts will be kept in canvas bras, which can be easily washed and boiled.
Good habits learned in motherhood should be practiced after the return home has returned.
First of all, she must oppose energy to the assault of relatives and friends. She cannot completely resume her previous occupations, but she must be housed, helped, in the household affairs so that she has time to rest several hours a day. The quietness of the whole family now depends on how well your child will be disciplined, in relation to the advice received at the maternity ward.
